Troy, Michigan-based developer submitted a site plan to the city of Ann Arbor to construct a residential subdivision north of Arborland Center.

Michael Furnari, working with Georgia-based homebuilder Pulte Homes, wants to build 73 single-family homes on 46.5 acres bordered by Arborland to the south, US-23 to the east, Huron River Drive to the north and the Woodcreek subdivision and Chalmers Drive to the west.

Past projects proposed on site behind Ann Arbor's Arborland

Developers have expressed interest in a 50-acre property behind Ann Arbor’s Arborland Center for at least 12 years.

The vacant land is located just north of a highly developed area and immediately to the west of US-23. The property is also bordered by a residential subdivision.

Past development proposals for the property have faced opposition from neighbors and also encountered planning issues related to site access.

50 acres north of Arborland targeted again for development

A developer has taken interest in nearly 50 acres of land north of Arborland Center, where both a residential subdivision and a large mixed-use project were proposed in the past.

Michael Furnari of Troy, Mich.-based Fairview Companies wants to develop 77 single-family residential lots on property bordered by Arborland Center to the south, US-23 to the east, Huron River Drive to the north and the Woodcreek subdivision and Chalmers Drive to the west.

Furnari did not return requests for comment for more detailed information about the project. Ann Arbor City Planner Matt Kowalski said he anticipates the developer will submit a site plan at the end of this month. There was a citizen participation meeting for the project on Aug. 28.

The property has a single-family residential zoning. The South Pond Nature Area is on the northern end of the site.
